Marrakech is sometimes known as the ‘Red City’, and this dazzling imperial capital is the most important city in Morocco’s history. Later in the evening the food wagons arrive in convoy, and the square turns into one vast, open-air restaurant. Try local specialities such as deep fried eel, hearty stews served in a tagine, or the delicious almond sweets known as amlou.From Marrakech, you will have plenty of options for a day out or excursion. Trains run from here to the fascinating city of Casablanca for example, where visitors can enjoy a rich cultural heritage, and some truly outstanding scenery. Other nearby attractions include the picturesque valley of the Ourika River, which can be found high up in the Atlas Mountains. Alternatively, head south towards the Sahara Desert. You can take a camel tour if you want, and visit such sights as the Draa River, the Waterfalls of Beni Mellal and the beautiful town of Essaouira.A holiday in Marrakech will also bring you close to some of the best beaches in Morocco – along this Atlantic coastline, you will be able to find countless golden beaches, providing the perfect conditions for swimming and sunbathing.
